Central London Borough – Virtual School
Problem: A central London Borough Virtual School first approached our agency to seek private tuition for children in care. Our role was to provide a personalised tuition service to children who needed extra educational help due to various circumstances which caused the students to be falling behind in their education through mainstream schooling.
Who: The ages of the students ranged from 6 to 17 year olds covering a wide range of subjects typically English, Maths and Science from Primary School to GCSE tutoring.
Example Student: “is currently predicted a G in Maths and is reluctant to engage with this subject. She is keen to learn in other subject areas”
Why they chose Greater London Tutors: Virtual School chose Greater London Tutors because we could provide a tuition service which included:
• Professional advice
• Home schooling on a one to one basis in a comfortable environment
• Ability for direct communication with tutor, carers or foster parents
• CRB checked tutors
• Tutors with SEN experience (Special Educational Needs)
• Experienced tutors
• Best value
How: Using our large database of experienced tutors we were able to refine our choice of tutors to match the student, arranging CRB Checked relevant experience with subject, level and age group, with flexibility and ability to commit.
What Happened: Our tutors arranged a meeting with the student’s carer and set up an initial lesson to help assess the student’s strengths and weaknesses and also determine how they would be able to help improve their grades or re-engage the student with the subject. Typically our tutors would travel to the carer’s home for a 1 hour lesson on a weekly basis.
Conclusion: Since December 2011 Greater London Tutors has provided tuition to 16 students through this Virtual School. Over 148 hours of tuition, with an average of 9 hours per pupil. Through the use of our personalised service our tutors were able to provide tuition and improve student’s grades and reengagement in the subjects.
