Primary and Pre Lower Secondary – 4+, 7+, 8+ and school entry exams

Many schools, both independent and state funded, now test students when they are 4, 7/8 as well as at the 11+. These tests are usually focused on English, Maths and Verbal and Non-verbal reasoning, and can form the basis of admission, particularly in the independent sector. Our tutors have a lot of experience making these tests easy for their students allowing them to get the best possible start in education. Our tutors are also adept at supporting young children between the ages of 3 and 11 throughout the school year, making sure that no building block is missed at this critical point in a child’s development.

11+ and Selective Entry

11+ examinations are used by selective entry secondary schools to select their pupils. Many independent schools also set exams at the 11+ level or use the ISEB 11+ Common Entrance exam. We have many tutors who are very experienced in helping children towards the entry exams to selective grammar schools such as Latimer, Queen Elizabeth Boys, Henrietta Barnet and Tiffin's (both the girls and the boys school) amongst others and have great rates of success. The tutors we select for these assignments will help your child have the best chance of gaining entry to these very competitive schools through their experience with the specific exams.

13+ Common Entrance and Scholarship Exams for Private Schools

Over the years we have helped thousands of pupils succeed in exams gaining entry to the top public schools in the UK. We have helped students at the 13+ level entry to Westminster, St Pauls, Eton and Harrow amongst many others. We have relationships with many preparatory schools around London through which we help prepare their best students for scholarship exams, and provide bespoke courses for revision.

SATs

Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) take place at the end of Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. For Key Stage 1 (year 2), they take place around Easter time, and for the end of Key Stages 2 and 3 (years 6 and 9), they are usually in May. They cover the three core subjects of English, Maths and Science. SATS are important as an indicator of future performance, and more controversially, are seen to be an indicator of how well primary schools are performing relative to others in the league tables. A child's KS1 results can give early signs of educational problems. KS2 results are often used by secondary schools for setting the new year 7 intake classes. KS3 results are for setting year 10 (GCSE) classes. For questions about how well your child is performing at each key stage, click here.

GCSE

GCSE‘s are critical exams taken in year 11, however in most schools the course starts at the beginning of year 10. The GCSE exams are nationally recognised as very important in evaluating a teenager's level of education and are often used by universities when assessing candidate's entry offers. Our GCSE tutors are familiar with the exams so are able to help effectively with exam technique and ensuring the student has a comprehensive knowledge of the syllabus, taking the stress out of revision.

AS & A2

A-level examinations test subject knowledge to a considerable depth in years 12 and 13. Each subject is divided into a series of modules and are examined at two points throughout the year, in January and during the summer. We have A-Level tutors who can support students throughout their AS and A-level course and also to provide intensive help towards specific modules.

International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate, or IB, has increasingly been adopted by schools in the independent sector as an alternative to A-levels. The IB examines a wide range of subjects in some depth and is very popular abroad. Students who want to change to a European or other foreign education system often choose to take the IB to facilitate their entry into their next institution. We have tutors who are familiar with this growing, but still not very widespread, curriculum should you require our help.
